I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Could have sworn it was judgment day
—1999, Prince
While no significant computer failures occurred when the clocks rolled from 1999 into 2000, preparations for the Y2K bug had a significant effect on our relationship to computers and introduced a sense of uncertainty to the world’s collective psyche.
Dawnbreakers brings together a survey contemporary artists of mixed disciplines, whose work deals with the notion of this transformation into a new age and the underlying tension that exists in the moment somewhere between midnight and dawn, as we waited for computers, life support systems and traffic lights to keep ticking past the midnight hour.
Dawnbreakers is curated by Juan Bolivar.
